Dr. Liping Hao is Professor of Nutrition and food hygiene, School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST). She graduated with a major in Preventive Medicine in 1994 and received her PhD in 2005 from Tongji Medical College. Dr. Hao’s research is mainly focused on: Alcohol intake and health—mechanism of alcohol consumption and the risk of type2 diabetes; The preventive effect of phytochemicals (resveratrol and lutein/zeaxanthin) in chronic metabolic diseases; And also the Iodine nutrition status during pregnancy and its influence on pregnancy outcomes based on the Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort Study supported by National Program on Basic Research Project of China. Se has published over 20 original papers (9 of them published in SCI-collected journals including J Nutr Biochem, Diabetes Metab Res Rev, Food Chem Toxicol, PloS One and Lipids).

Career goals

1. Related mechanisms research about the preventive effect of phytochemicals (resveratrol and lutein/zeaxanthin) in chronic metabolic diseases with the techniques of molecular and cellular biology, toxicology, epidemiology and others.

2. Iodine or other micronutrients nutrition status during pregnancy and its influence on pregnancy outcomes in cohort.

3. Nutrients, phytochemicals, genes and their interaction on the prevention the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension or other cardiovascular diseases.
