Dr. Jianduan Zhang is a tenured Professor of Maternal and Child Health in the Department of Maternal and Child Health, School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). She has been involved in teaching and research primarily in the area of child health, with an emphasis on the understanding of childhood obesity and its related problems from the prospective of environment, genetic and their interactive effects. Dr. Zhang has led, as the Principal Investigator as well as the key team member, many community-based research projects related to childhood obesity and other areas. Since last several years, she has started to work with professionals and researchers from abroad on collaborative research projects including those with the Karolinska Institute of Sweden and the University of Minnesota of the US. Most of her researches have been published in well-know/peerreviewed journals domestic and abroad alike. She believes altering the macroenvironments, i.e., policy, is one of the keys to alleviating the rapid prevalence of childhood obesity in China, which keeps inspiring her to systematically study health policy in the US, where last year, she received her second Master Degree in International Development Policy from Sanford School of Public Policy in Duke University. She intends to engage more in promoting a healthier environment in our society. Dr. Zhang has also been serving as the key consultant of the Chinese Adolescent Health Promotion Program, advocated by Chinese Volunteer Association, Communist Youth League Center and sponsored by the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF).
